What are the graduation requirements?
1. What kind of program does PVCS offer?
We offer a Personalized Learning program with a set
curriculum. We use a variety of materials from
Prentice-Hall, Houghton Mifflin, Saxon, Holt, K12
Curriculum, Apex and other publishers.
2. How can I get my student enrolled in
PVCS?
Parents/Students may go to our registration page and
submit a registration form or call us at 760-757-0161
between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:00 pm for
registration information. Pacific View Charter School
has open enrollment: K-8 students may enroll from August
through March; high school students may enroll from July
through May. High school students may earn partial
credits if applicable. Pre-enrollment may be done at any
time.
3. How many days a week can my student attend
classes at PVCS?
K-8 students have an optimal one-day-per-week class.
Some high school classes have required workshops such as
Work Experience, English, Biology, and Spanish. Other
high school classes are offered as independent
study.
4. Does PVCS offer a more hands-on approach
with the students than a traditional public school?
K-8 students meet individually with their Supervisory
Teachers every two-three weeks; high school students
meet one-on-one every week with their Supervisory
Teacher. Classes and workshops have less than 20
students.
5. Does PVCS have math tutoring available? Yes,
we offer math tutoring three to two days per week,
depending on the needs of the students. 6. How
many students attend PVCS? During the
2007-08
school year, PVCS averaged 350 K-12 students. 7.
Can my student gain or make up extra credits? Yes,
students can attend PVCS year-round. Summer classes are
available to all high school students in order to earn
or make up extra credits. Students may also take one
class at any Oceanside district high school while
attending PVCS. Additionally, students are encouraged to
attend MiraCosta or Palomar College where they can
receive college units as well as high school credit. 8.
If my student has been expelled or suspended from
his/her last school, can he/she still attend PVCS? If
so, what is the process to enroll? Expulsions
and suspensions pending expulsions are reviewed on an
individual basis. The PVCS Director meets with the
student and parents to review the paperwork before
taking it to the Board of Trustees. the Director will
recommend acceptance or denial into PVCS and the Board
makes the final decision. 9.
Can my student graduate and receive a high school
diploma from PVCS? Yes, PVCS is a public
high school which holds a graduation ceremony in June,
complete with caps and gowns. Students will receive a
high school diploma provided they have completed
graduation requirements and have passed the California
High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE). 10.
